As Christian graduated from UTSA, the University of Texas at San Antonio, she didn’t hesitate to take her accounting degree to the bank, which then informed her of nonprofit microlender Accion Texas Inc.

Once she applied and was approved for a loan, McAllen-born Christian opened High Style in one of the four major malls in San Antonio. Since the grand opening of the shop in June, 2013, the 26-year-old has already hired four employees and is expecting to hire a manager.

The Accion loan helped Christian purchase inventory and pay her employees. Selling bags and accessories, but mostly shoes, Christian needed to purchase more of what she already sold out on.
